How Do You Know

How do you know

If your knowledge is complete?

What is the Lineage?
Differentiate the Ideas.
Define the paradigm.

Can YOU DISTINGUISH the main theorists in chiropractic and how they can be traced back to D.D. Palmer? Can you compare and contrast the ideas and theories between the leading chiropractors from the last century? What is the difference between the ideas of Ratledge and Drain? D.D. and B.J.? Harper and Himes? Janse and Weiant? These were some of the leaders that shaped today’s ideas in chiropractic.

By knowing their works and the research their theories were based upon daily practice and contemporary professional discourse would deepen.

How do you define the chiropractic paradigm?

This basic question should be a common ground.

Three Paradigms – have traditionally been part of the chiropractic profession
Defining it with Facts – without a shared understanding it is difficult to defend any perspective
Complexity of Ideas – it is important to develop methods to distinguish chiropractic’s many theories and worldviews
A Common Framework – developing a methodology to integrate the entire history of ideas gives the modern chiropractor tools to move forward
Vertebral Subluxation – by mastering the history of vertebral subluxation in chiropractic practitioners and the profession will become more complete

Thankfully, there are several programs in the profession that teach pieces of the history of ideas in the profession. Most are influenced by the teachers or the school they are affiliated with. There are also several online CE programs although few of those emphasize subluxation or the chiropractic paradigm and its history. You could spend anywhere from one to ten years reading to master the history of ideas in chiropractic. THE INSTITUTE CHIROPRACTIC is designed to give you the information you need in an easy format. It is an excellent adjunct to the many programs already available such as:

Academy of Chiropractic Philosophers
Diplomat in Chiropractic Principles and Standards
School seminars, Lyceums, and Waves
History, Principles, and Philosophy courses at the schools
Various Live Events Worldwide
Scholarly, Political, and Professional Organizations
